A small local newspaper advertisement in late December 1949 called for interested persons to meet at the McKeesport (Pennsylvania) YMCA at 7:30pm on Tuesday, January 10, 1950, to discuss the formation of a local model railroad club. By the fourth session, on Tuesday, January 31, fifteen club founders met that evening and signed what would become the original Constitution of the McKeesport Model Railroad Club, which was formally founded the next day, February 1, 1950. Little is known of the first incarnation of the Mon Yough Valley, as its history was brief and public tours were never conducted there, very few records exist prior to 1952, and the last of those souls who remember building it passed away over a decade ago. Dues were affordable at $1 per month.
